Introduction to Automated Feed System at AquaBioTech Group

How can fish farmers feed larval fish more responsibly and effectively? Fish hatcheries have traditionally used direct manual distribution of live feeds such as artemia, daphnia, and microalgae to provide high quality nutrition for the early life stages of their stock. While this process ensures that feed densities are high enough to sustain fish larvae to the juvenile stages, low-precision feed delivery often facilitates overfeeding and subsequent nutrient loss in the form of uneaten feed. Malta-based HatcheryMatch project partner AquaBioTech Group has recently conducted a technical review of high precision live feed delivery systems. This research will be used in the future development of an automated and highly controlled artemia feed delivery system for use in recirculating hatchery systems. This technology will distribute precise volumes of feed at defined intervals, ultimately minimizing resources lost as waste!
